Yo, this is for peeps who want to know anything about audio, cause i know theres alot of ppl who would do audio if they knew how . .

Heres some of the basic sh*t ya need:

-a mic (can get one from Radio Shack for $10, or steal it . . j/k)
-a program to record ya sh*t aka Cool Edit Pro 2.0 or Acid Pro 4.0
-beats . . d/l off grokster/kazaa or from websites like mp3.com

thats basically it . . work with it, it wont be good at first but you'll pick it up quick . . also dont try an make it perfect just make somethin and work from there

p.s. - remember to post questions if ya got any . .

i'd love to do that milli, but im workin so much i dont wanna commit to it and not finish it . . . my goal wash acually to have ppl ask questions and then eventually make an FAQ . . . also Elim made some guides in another Forum i believe . . . again, if ppl just ask the questions for whatever, no matter how dumb they think it is, i'll anwser it . . .

nah it ain't the producin side of shit that bothers me cos i ain't ever gonna be a producer cos i don't understand it that well i'm just lyrics, its the recording and everything to do wit it including understanding bars n shit even though u don't need to know about bars to spit it would still be good to have the knowledge to expand on. about the audio tourny...is there any capped time on a skit..at all...and is there any vote on beat (cause alot of us, if not all dont make our own, and cant get the most perfect beats...)so please no vote on beat, were mc's...(i say this cause ive seen battles that vote on the beat they used to, i thought it was dumb

-edit-...and whens the deadline for drops?....cause ima wait till the last seconds for my own reasons(dont want my opponent feeding off my verse)

Expo

keep skits short, were spittin not actin . . voting wont be on beats, but with the amount of beats you can get these day, i'd recommend havin a good one . . DEADLINE: 7/22 --> date first drop has to be in by

aiight check it out...i got a question for anybody who can answer it...i have/use goldwave software to record my shit...and ive tried recording it 2 different ways..one: while the beat is on my speakers, press record and start spittin to it...and two: recording my vocals separately (with a pair of headphones on, so i hear the beat) and then after recording adding it into the beat i have on the computer...now..
with the first option my problem is that the beat is very low and u kind of hear 'fuzz' with it..but the vocals r very clear..
with the second my problem is that my vocals become very muffled and hard to understand..but the beat comes out clear ..
does anyone have this problem? and a solution? please let me kno ASAP
holla..heres the link to my shit..i currently have 3 joints on there..
the keepin it gangsta and big pimpin ones i recorded my vocals separately
the ww3 one i recorded the beat and me spittin all at once

i do the second one . . . havin my vocals on a dif track . . makes it easier to fix up shit . . but you know i use cool edit . . so i would try switchin to dif sequencers (recording software) and see if it continues . . . or it might be as easy as adding a couple of effects to make ya voice more clear an crisp . . you gotta just experiment . . aiight dawg . .

I cut and paste other beats and sounds from instrumentals....and the program i use to complete my masterpieces is "acoustica mp3 audio mixer" and creative sound blaster studio editor which was included with the drivers to my sound card...what do you suGGest i use to take away the "p" and "b" sound which causes distortion. It's probably the mic i use, but apparently, all mics are like that but require a "screen" of some sort. What could i use for this "screen" without buying the professional material?

BUY Reason or FruityLoops. BUY Acid (great for sampling, and keeping time together), and BUY cool edit.

Flawless -

I'm not familiar with goldwave. BUT, unless you are using a Condenser mic, Im sure you are going to have to clean up your vocals. It some instances, hiss reduction will work. Other times, it can help to add a little reverb, for a natural vocal echo. It also depends on WHERE you record, and how you are recording. I have a pair of Maxwell Noise Cancellation headphones, a Spacetech MX3000 Dynamic Mic, and a Sony FV220 dynamic mic, and I try to keep as much clutter out of my area as possible. Sound bounces, and can be picked BACK up in your mic.

Record / test, try again.

There should be an export, or a render as option in cool edit.

Idunno bout ya'll but I use ACID pro 4.0, it's easy to add track n all that shit...works fine for me. But I don't think u can add echos n all of that shit on this program. Get DC++, n download it, prolly got a keygenerator in the folder.

Maybe the kid don't got no money, or want to spend his money on recording stuff...I mean I think my quality is alright and I spend like 10 bucks, then got this acid shit n that's it.

well I'm out/peace

I use Acid... don't have any headphones, so just play the beat quiet through my speakers (Just download commercial instrumentals, or amateur productions). I have plugins I use for other programs (trying to learn to produce through Logic Pro, but need a midi keyboard), which seem to be automatically picked up in Acid aswell.
I use Q10 Paragraphics EQ to tidy up the vocals a little.. I have a little problem with T's and P/B's etc.. but I can simply compensate by my mic position.
Need a spit screen. And a mic stand. And a new mic. And headphones D:

Masta-T
08-26-2005, 09:23 PM
you guys know any good alternatives to a spit screen?

dannyruxspin
09-05-2005, 05:21 PM
ehh, the cheap alternative to a spit screen would be a dryer sheet. lol. Some cats have told me to use them, I go without one.

There is really no audio driven need to have a spit screen. If the emcee is popping "P" and "B" sounds, then they should work on their enounciation.

Actually aside from helping to control the P's and B's the spit/windscreen is also used to prevent an abundant amount of spit from getting into the diaphragm of your mic.....If that happens your mic is going to eventually start to go bad especially if it is a relatively "inexpensive" mic......
(I'm being politically correct)....So by any means cover that mic like you would if you were getting ready to go screw something.....

I was afraid of that.....Let me say for what it's worth that a mic from Radio Shack isnt gonna reproduce the same sound as if you were recording with a mic from Guitar Center or Brook Mays...etc...etc....Now dont get me wrong....Radio Shack has good mics but I personally wouldn't use one unless I am going to be doing some church stuff....LOL...SERIOUSLY.....
Really those are the types of mics that Radio Shack offer.......

If you are serious about your craft and this rap shit aint just something to pass the time then invest a lil bread into yourself and go out to Guitar Center (if there is one in your area) They have an MXL 2500 mic that retails for $999 but right now they have those bitches on sale (90%) off.....That means you pay $99 plus tax for a great mic.....(I have the MXL 990 series)...here is that link.....

What is a good way to mix vocals with a beat? I often find that I have a real good track except that it sounds like the vocals are on top of the beat instead of with it (hopefully that makes sense lol). I've heard that the best way to fix this is to play around with stuff, but I really have no clue where to begin. I know next to nothing about equalizing and mixing my own stuff, and some help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have Adobe Audition (Cool Edit) 1.5, but I'd be willing to DL another program if necessary.

Thanks.
