Boo Yaa TRIBE – BiographyIn The BeginningBoo Yaa TRIBE, the big, bad-ass Samoan brothers are about to unleash a storm comingout of the west with their biggest, most BANGIN’ album ever. Godfather, Kobra, MonstaO, Ganxsta Ridd, Murder One, & Gawtti, have attracted the help of G-funk producerextraordinaire, Battlecat (Snoop, Ice Cube), as well as guest artists Mack 10, WC,Kurupt, the slimmest of all shadies, Eminem, B-Real, Crooked I, Knoc-Turn’al, Kokane,Short Khop, Eastwood and Gail Gotti. That’s right, all on one record.Growing up in the city of Carson, CA, known as the Harbor area of the 8-Ball City, it wasthe home of the OG Piru West Gang. Anchored dead center in the middle of Long Beach,Compton, Gardena and San Pedro where the law on the wall was written, you had to bangor you were banged on. The Devoux brothers lived the lifestyle of true gangsters, orchestrated and organized by Godfather, the eldest of the Boo Yaa brothers. This isthe wild wild west, where gladiators and warriors couldn’t survive without being on thewrong side of the law.The Game ChangesThe TRIBE lived by the gun. Gangbanging and doing time became a way of life until thedeath of their brother Robert “Youngman” Devoux changed them. “We’d had enough,”says Godfather, “so when Ridd got out of jail, I asked him ‘what do you want to do withyour life?’ He looked at me and said ‘I want to do Rap.’ This was back in 87.”In 1988, they began to write their own music, releasing a 12" called “Coming Hard toAmerica.” They also appeared on Club Nouveau’s track “No Friend Of Mine,” with a rapverse by Gangsta Ridd.Signed, Sealed and DeliveredIn 1989, the brothers got a call to fly out to New York City, signed with ChrisBlackwell’s Island Records and recorded their critically acclaimed debut Rap albumNEW FUNKY NATION. The album sold over 100,000 copies.Having their song, “Rumors of a Dead Man,” placed on the Hollywood Records soundtrackto South Central in 1992, and following a huge tour through Europe, they quicklyreturned to the studio to record “Good Times Bad Times,” an all-star happening withartists such as George Clinton, Ice Cube and the guys from Living Color, but this projectwas never released. In ‘92 they performed on the Lollapalooza Tour which earned them great respect fortheir dynamic stage show. The same year the Tribe left Island Records to sign withHollywood Records and recorded the EP, “Rumors of a Dead Man.” In ’94 they recorded thealbum “Doomsday,” it was promptly released in Germany and they set out to tour Europe.In’95, they signed with independent label Bullet Proof Records and recorded “OccupationHazardous.” The year after, they forayed into Rap-Metal crossover with an EP entitled,“Metally Disturbed.” In ‘97 they recorded their first full-length Rap-Metal album,“Angry Samoans.” In 2000 they went back to their Rap roots and recorded “MafiaLifestyle” independently, it came out through Bayside distribution with little support.

For The RecordWith production by Battlecat and a wealth of guest appearances from all sides of theWest Coast spectrum, this album is sure to have fans in disbelief. For the first timeever, artists from different coasts, circles, and gangs will all be featured on the samealbum. Featured guests include: Mack 10, WC, Kurupt, Eminem, Crooked I, B-Real, Knoc-Turn’al, Kokane, Short Khop, Eastwood, Gail Gotti, all on one album. Only the Boo YaaTribe could pull this off!!!“You see we are known as the Mafia of Rap, the forefathers of gangsterism. At one timeon the West Coast, everyone worked together. Our goal with Battlecat was OUR way, OURthing! That’s why we call it West Koasta Nostra.” This whole album is about respect!Whether these other rappers like each other or not, they’re doin’ it out of respect for BooYaa TRIBE. We roll as a family, and we have loyalty and honor which cannot be denied,”says Godfather.“When you hear this record, you will feel the pain that my family went through. I don’thave to go out there and prove it to anybody, or sit there and tell them I’m the hardestgangster. Hell nah, listen to my record and you’re going to feel the pain. Then you’regoing to hit (the song) ‘Beautiful Thang,’ it’ll take you back to the good old days. That’swhat ‘West Koasta Nostra’ is about. I thank God for rap, it’s saved a lot of lives.”With the #1 rapper in the world appearing on the album, you can’t help but wonder howthat happened. “Eminem is a true artist. Big companies with big money are trying to gethooks and verses from him, he feels our family’s pain, and he wanted to give back tosomebody who’d lived the same struggle. It may not be the same struggle but he canidentify.”West Koasta Nostra hits stores October 7, 2003.# # #Violet Brown, (Wherehouse, Urban Buyer): “Battlecat & Boo Yaa are West Coast treasuresthat have become known worldwide.
