Newbie Tip of the Week
One thing that people have been coming to me confused about lately deals with concepts. What is a good or bad concept, and how do you know? Well, first you need to know what a concept is. A concept is the subject that your bar relates to, for instance, if a punch said:
"I'll 'take your top off' like convertible cars"
You have a punch that involves a concept that deals with cars, or vehicles in general. Now, how do you decide whether or not that is a good concept? Well, you should ask yourself "Have I seen other people use punches involving cars?" and if your answer is no, then that's a good start, because if you have seen a lot of people use the concept (for instance punches that relate to guns) then it's not as original, and others have probably already seen it before. Secondly, you should ask "Does the punch make a good visual?" and if your answer is yes, then you got a good concept. You might be asking "Well how am I suppose to know if that's a good enough visual?" Well, this can be a difficult question to answer, but as a general rule, as long as the concept is something that can be pictured easily in the reader's mind, or that they can relate to, then you have a good visual. An example of something that wouldn't be a good visual would be like "I'll make your limbs break like when trees fight" because.. trees don't fight, so it's not a good concept. I mean yeah, you can kinda picture trees fighting I guess, but.. if you read that and said "Damn that's whack" it's b/c it's a bad concept due to lack of imagery and comparison. Well, I hope you kinda got the jist of what I was tryin to say there lol, was a lot longer than I expected.

Newbie Tip of the Week
One thing that people have been coming to me confused about lately deals with concepts. What is a good or bad concept, and how do you know? Well, first you need to know what a concept is. A concept is the subject that your bar relates to, for instance, if a punch said:
"I'll 'take your top off' like convertible cars"
You have a punch that involves a concept that deals with cars, or vehicles in general. Now, how do you decide whether or not that is a good concept? Well, you should ask yourself "Have I seen other people use punches involving cars?" and if your answer is no, then that's a good start, because if you have seen a lot of people use the concept (for instance punches that relate to guns) then it's not as original, and others have probably already seen it before. Secondly, you should ask "Does the punch make a good visual?" and if your answer is yes, then you got a good concept. You might be asking "Well how am I suppose to know if that's a good enough visual?" Well, this can be a difficult question to answer, but as a general rule, as long as the concept is something that can be pictured easily in the reader's mind, or that they can relate to, then you have a good visual. An example of something that wouldn't be a good visual would be like "I'll make your limbs break like when trees fight" because.. trees don't fight, so it's not a good concept. I mean yeah, you can kinda picture trees fighting I guess, but.. if you read that and said "Damn that's whack" it's b/c it's a bad concept due to lack of imagery and comparison. Well, I hope you kinda got the jist of what I was tryin to say there lol, was a lot longer than I expected.
