Reggae is --well..reggae. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Sister Nancy...roots heavily in rasatfari culture

reggaeton is alotta stuff from Peurto Rico, Dominican Republic--stuff like Don Chezina..my fave Big boy, Daddy Yankee
--Pitbull uses some sick reggaeton beats

dancehall--- mos def stemming from carribean..I gotta let someone else explain this cuz I 'm really not down with the dancehall--is that like sean paul and shaggy? I dunno--

sean paul 'n' shaggy r like bubblegum reggae. what gem wrote about raggae is correct. reggaeton is like bachata, a form of latino music that has different melodies but the same bass 'n' kick in every song.......shits annoying as hell.

i'm no one to knock anyone for their love of a certain music but how can you like it when it all sounds the same.i only say this because in miami the reggaeton that is played here is pitbull(and the like). there's a reggaeton radio staion here whose slogan is latino and proud yet most of the artsit they play are from america or really only speak english in there songs, so you can imagine why my opinion of it is so low........sry. for the long ass post but if there's another kind of reggaeton out there( nonamericanized, bubblegum crap) i want to know about it.

I make beats so I love the sounds..the samples..the loops I can take from it and like I said--I spend alot of my time in the Dominican so I have friends who listen to it-----I respect the fact that each country has its own musical culture and I find if I limit myslef--I am not as creative with my music. I find some sick sick stuff from Dominican, Brasil and Peurto Rico.
You are right--alotta of reggaeton has the same concepts and perhaps it all sounds the same to someone who just doesn't like it (or who hasn;t listened to the good stuff)--

maybe I can throw out some names that you don;t know--you can see if you can dwnld some.

they meant the bass 'n' kick, b-coz here in america reggaeton has been commercialized to the point where the "artsit" no longer feel the need to make different drumline beats in their songs.
