I got a question...
I record on my comp...is having a preamp worth it? Would a kick-ass mic plugged straight into my mic jack do the same thing?

Okay - to answer your question, no. A preamp does so much more even though it is gonna cost a little extra its still in the basic requirements for in-home setups. With the preamp you can control your condesing levels more and have control to tube control, voice saturation, etc... I personally use a Samson C-Valve Preamp with my setup and its been like God for me that last year and a half. So if it were me, I would look into some preamps, you can find some in the price range from 100 - 500. Maybe even cheaper if you look hard enough, but trust its better than a mic jack because the Microphone is just the first step of good quality.

Dope, thanks for the info, I'll be hittin you up in this thread more often.
Also, btw Antic.. don't expect much of any equipment if you're still on a shitty 16-bit soundcard.. my guess is that you're using the integrated soundcard that came with your computer, right?.. if that's the case, go cop a soundcard.. I have a creative Emu-0404.. it gives you ALOT for the money.. it costs around 100$.. that's the best quality u'll get for that money.. trust, a soundcard makes ALOT of diffrence..
for a long while I was running my shit oonly with a mic and a pre amp.. I thought that was enough, but my quality stayed shitty and I could not figure out the problem. then some dude suggested a sound card.. so I copped one.. my quality got boosted 10 times or something..
sry for getting all up in ya thread jae..lol..

Sweet...I'm runnin' a Powerbook, it probably came with a 16 bit one, huh?
Maybe I'll try to cop a soundcard, too.
