Rapdogs 2006 Yearbook: Bigger and Deffer!!!

Another year came washing onto the shores of Rapdogs Dot com, and it rolled back out to sea, carrying with it some great moments, as well as sad ones. Epic battles, controversial kicking, monumental returns, and everything of the like. This year, to be honest, was very exponential. RapDogs expanded, and a wave of young ones rolled in, to take the place of the old. Makes me feel all fuzzy inside and stuff.

What Gem Thinkz Of Yoo!
All of you make this site what it is and this is what little ol' Gemcee thinks of you. Don't be offended if I forgot you..there are a lot of active members and I spent a lot of time on not trying to write a novel and not boring anyone. So, Take your fat little finger, point to the screen and skim the page for your name.

Abnormal--back in action after a hiatus...furry camo girly jacket and all. hehe..jokes...I know that Tox always had good things to say about you but other than that, We really don't know much about each other-- I think we missed your absence because there is definitely a new spark since you've been back... and you have some really clever shit.Glad your here.

Admin--We wouldn't have a site without you...your busy life and other endeavors make it hard for you to chill with us regularly but when you do make an appearance..its very exciting.. much like seeing Polkaroo on the Polkadot door. I know I look forward to all the changes that will be occurring soon...and I’m also at your service for all future years.

Anesthetic-You contribute so much to the site and its members, ya pick up the slack when shit needs to get done and your a mad veteran lyricist. My fellow intellectual/wordsmith, It's my pleasure to man the boards with you and I look up to ya a lot.

Antic--One of my fave freestyle writers, always have been. Gotta give you some credit for being the only person to follow through with the Spoken Rhyme Project, congrats on that. A valuable member to the boards and a perfect fit for Rapology, just like I knew you would be. I look forward to seeing what the new year holds.

A. Smith- Who are you Mr.Smith? You got the whole board starting polls about your old identity You wrote Murder He Wrote..which is up there with my faves if the year. You refuse to tell me who you are--your sarcastic, your egotistical...you fit right in you mysterious jerk.

Baby Uzi-Man..some of these cats don't know guys like you and Ju cuz yall been busy--its so nice to see ya back lately. Grace us with your mad wordplay. Young Ru and Ju--are you crazy? That's like orgasming two times in a row.

Butcher--Drama--There’s always some shit talkin' goin on when your around--which is a good thing..it keeps all you guys writing and thinking of new creative shit to kill each other with.Your concepts are creative and your in The Family..I like everyone up in there.

Chi Vice- You kill it in battles...your an old head, you give good feedback and help out alot....we don't talk much but I know the respect is mutual. Anyone who's dedicated to the site and hip hop is O.K. in my books--always good to have you around.

CIII Elements- Someone my age, who remembers old shit, who I can talk to about my favorite thing: Hip hop. You found our site and fit in beautifully. Your freestyles are unique and you have forged a respected spot on our boards very quickly. Nice to have ya on board!

Cool C-- I don't know you much...I know you got some sick battling skills, I know your makin and breakin crews..lol..and I know your a long time member which I respect alot...I also know that you cracked me up the one time you said "get at me if u need anything sexy" to some chick in the intro forum.

Dev Dollaz--I'm waiting for you to drop that Cd mang, lol.....we miss you--but I know your busy doing your thang.

Divine Write- One of our oldest members, one of our best writers and one of the most respected peeps in my eyes...I look forward to many years of divine hip hop enlightenment with you.

D-Rob- You got busy, and I thought you were gone--you helped to get our crew back up and runnin..now you're coming back better than ever....you're looking good and gettin back in crew battles. Viva Rapology! You offer feedback, you're a great writer, you sound cool when you drop an audio----stay active for god's sakes you jerk.

EmceeSmythe-Busy pursuing your studies, runnin shit as an editor of your school paper-- I miss your activity and your consistently incredible freestyles. Your destined to be a writer in some shape or form and you always take time to drop in here when you get time...you know this is where your home is.

Fantasy--I feel like your my little bro...one of the very few dudes that I chat with regularly off the site and I recognize your dedication and elevation. I remember when you first joined, I remember your structure and your spelling made me wanna cry. I have seen a creative and thoughtful writer blossom- I love seeing members grow as writers...and I love that you have taken every piece of constructive criticism to improve yourself. Your now chillin with one of the best crews..Stay positive..keep up the good work.

Game shark- I admire your feistiness ..I admire the fact that so many people hate on you but you stick around and hold your own...I admire that you have improved a great deal since some of your first posts and it looks like the madder these cats make you--the better you get. Keep it up.

G-Tech-My fellow Canadian..There's a lot of drama with crews and other members and shit but you keep on offering great feedback, you take constructive criticism well and you have improved your writing and batting skills.Keep it up.

Illbert Rhymestein/Yung Pro--When you post up in audio its sick. You've been one of my all time faves since I first joined. I love your voice, I love your lyrics, your flow--there's noone like you on the board.

Immortal Divinity--Sometimes, I'm like "Where did this cat come from?" Joined in Oct 06 and your killing it with like..1200 posts.Your bustin out nutty frees and your a great battler. You posted up in my Music Initiative which gives you like..200 extra brownie points and its great to have ya around. Keep it up!

Jaeswift- When I first joined..you were really never around but I 'd always check your audios....as time went on..you made killer new tracks and you'd post em up for us to sample....your like that big brother who went to college and makes sure to keep in touch with a phone call. I love it when you make an appearance and I think your more active now which is great. Keep workin hard.

Jeebin--You went through some rough patches...you came back to chill with us, you're active and you continue to make great gfx... Thanks for Rapology's sig.

JKeith- Another busy man who makes some mad trax.I like the instrumentals and beats you make..The Pledge is pretty clever.. I think your flow and sound are sick.I see ya pop in every once in awhile and I know even though your busy..this is where your home is.

J Rage- Out of all the stinky brits that I talk to..you were the first. We have history. You haven't been posting much but when you do its always good and you're always leaving helpful feedback.I think you are severely underrated and I know you've worked hard to grow as a creative freestyler.

J Reaper--You welcomed me with open arms when I joined the crew...you disappeared and I thought you'd never be back.. now you're all active again and killing shit--in true Rapology form. Clique of the Year babee.

Jingle- You leave, you come back--your still the same good ol Jingle I always knew...except you have become a better writer each time you drop.Literally our "sickest" head...your one of a kind.

Johnny 5- You took the crew and revived it, you take my bitchy suggestions and demands with a grain of salt and you're geting us off the ground and running..even though I don't battle with you guys, I still love the crew..so Thanks. Your battling skills have improved..when you post in freestyle, you usually don't get a lot of feed but your all good man. Your dedicated..I'm glad your around.

JuJu- The infamous Ju....like I said to Uzi...you guys are killing shit, mad flows, good lyrics--no wonder your so busy, your fixin to take over some shit. Yo make the cleverest and craziest references in your battles. I've always loved your sound and I'm glad your an Rd member because we'd be jealous if your home was anywhere else.

k block- Your battling skills have improved so much..you've upped your punches and wordplay..I remember when you were all gangsta and then something changed and you relaxed a little..and let the real k block out..now your killin it with the Fam..good job.

King mc- I noticed this kid givin a mad amount of feedback and takin control of the forums like he was a Dominatrix...I appreciate the fact that you are respectful and fair and it is apparent that your here to better yourself and help out others.

Lil Ceez--I don't know you at all..I only know that you've been posting your audios forever. You represent the females well and you touch on some important subjects. Keep it up girl..I may not post much up in there..but I'm always listening.

lyrics--You've come a long way..you're consistently dropping freestyles and I know you've been workin on your battling techniques. I feel that you are someone who has improved a great amount from when you started. Your always up for a hiphop discussion and you take the time to learn about new shit--which is what I like about you.

Masta T--You are someone that I really don't chat with much...we don't have silly, useless banter back and forth like I have with most peeps--but I see you and I know that you are a machine in the audio section and you mean business! Your dedicated to that shit and I recognize your hard work and I know you keep that section bumpin with some sick shit.

Mc Maneone- Your a great artist and an excellent freestyle writer.Ever since the commando jump style picture with you in the pink and black zebra underwear flashing me your tittie--you can do no wrong in my books.

Obnoxious--You just take on anything and kill it. Freestyles--you kill 'em, battles you squash opponents--your ego is just big enough to start shit and then promptly end it by showcasing your skills.your willing to take on my whole crew by yourself. Your fuckin great man. I also respect the fact that your an active long time member.

Omega-- I like you Omega--My Dj name in Highschool was Omega..but besides that cool fact, I think your a fabulous writer. You came here with some skills and you have definitely proven to be an amazing freestyle writer. Its pretty much guaranteed that your pieces are fresh and thoughtful. You're always willing to offer feedback for my stuff--so I'm always down for checkin yours.

Perky-another UK head..My pal perky is serious about this shit. He's killin trax, collabing , bustin out shows in his city--I’m proud of your elevation and dedication and proud to be your friend.

Puerta Rican Chica- My girl...you don't post much but when you do, your audios are full of emotion and on point.. your frees are well written and I respect you as a writer and a person immensely. I miss you..post more and make me happy.

Quietstorm- You hold your own in your battles...you've improved a shitload since you first started..you and Butcher and whoever gotta alotta drama going on..so honestly , I usually steer clear of that shit. Keep doin your thang.

Rocladi-One of the very few ladies who have stuck around and I respect that alot.Your always up for a battle..always saucy and never intimidated. Good job girl.

Sharpshooter- You got some mad flows..I love U.K hphop..I love your sound. You don't get alotta recognition--you killed that track with Perky..I listen to it , like once a week.

Shoalin-The reason I am in my crew...you left the saying you were gonna be inactive--it was a sad day..but now you're killin shit with your new crew and Rapology is carrying on where you left off..you know how much I like ya papi. As we speak your vacationing in Austrailia-- watch out for stingrays! Crikey!

T.C.-- My main man...we haven't been running into each other lately and that sucks-- I can always count on you to be the funniest most ridiculous person on the boards. This place gets serious sometimes and you lighten it up..like the I even look up old posts to laugh at you..I'm not stalking you though--so no creepy pms please. You are a talented head who enjoys listening to my 60 minute R' n B' /techno remixes...and I thank you for that.

Trigo-- You make us laugh, you're an incredible moderator, a really clever writer and who can't love a DOE member? If I were closer to you..we'd go out for beers every night.

!FEren--If only Rapology could have another member...it would be nice to get ya back. I remember when you left--you were stubborn and you resigned even though noone wanted you to..I still love ya...I love that your active again...that you're funny..that you leave feed..that you make good gfx..the list goes on.

..::{My Year On RD}::..
A few respected heads have been chosen to write a small editorial for this year's final mag. I would like to thank them, whole-heartedly.

Gemcee:
Well ladies and germs..

Here I am..to give ya the low down on my year, here at Rd.I have found that Rd isn't just about posting up our thoughts and exhibiting our skills and strengths, it's about forging friendships and sharing our love of Hip Hop with similar minded people. We all have our crews and "buddies" ..we all have sarcastic and sometimes not so sarcastic banter back and forth but most importantly we all try and accept each other simply because we all are a part of this culture that we've created at RD. We had many changes in the summer which I felt, at the time, jeopardized the success of the board. In true Rd form, we pulled it together and even with the loss of some valued members, we continued to prosper and grow as a hip hop community. We also have a resurgence of old members which...is always a pleasure. The past year we have seen new mods man the boards successfully, Admins hard work on Seussical the Musical ..which I would love to see, Some furious freestyle dissing that included many names..gotta give it to Gameshark for stirring up more shit than the outhouses at Woodstock 94..I had the opportunity to meet Krs One and share it with all of you guys, Illdeal's whole "Safyre school" biting scandal, Annies hard work on pulling this shit together and Trigo and T.C's gay love affair...oh, wait..that must have been only in my dreams.

I find that we are a really respectful board full of a bunch of witty, intelligent souls. We get a lot of newbies and we are hard on them because we have some great writers as their competition .I gotta give a big hand to all the new guys who have hung in there. We have incredibly tight audio heads who are consistently busting out tracks like they were Sigourney Weaver in Alien. I always gotta give it up for our beautiful and fearless Audio ladies..Peurta Rican Chica and Lil Ceez...I am one of those girls who sound horrendous rapping so I love that these girls can hold their own with the boys. Masta T...the man is a beast. Perky, Sharpshooter, T.C..the collabo with Uzi n' Ju..Jaeswiftn' Jkeith...we really do have an unparalleled audio section! Congrats to Perky, JuJu and Jaeswift on their studio time and I know we all wish them success on their future endeavors. Keep it up guys n gals..don't forget when you make it big I like white gold spinny rims and a car to put them on.

My home is freestyle--everyday, I eat and breathe other peoples rhymes. Even though I may not comment--I read the frees, I absorb the subject matter. Omega is a beast lately...rolling out consistent pieces and touching on some serious topics with mad flow and vocab. The Butcher and Fantasy really have improved a ton and I always look forward to new stuff from them..Lyrics same deal--its awesome to be able to visibly see the growth in ones text and ideas. I can't name everyone but if you post in freestyle--your the reason its successful..otherwise we'd have nothing to read. Gotta give it to those who you know you can count on for something feisty-Antic, Maneone, Immortal Divinity has become some kind of evil genuis..the freestyle section just oozes creativity and talent. Keep it up! In the last year I found that I have slept on battles, work gets busy and in theory- I’d love to read and vote on every battle...but that’s hard..and that’s why I want to give you guys some applause in that section--cuz its alotta modding and a lot of member participation....My new years resolution will be to vote and peep more battles..you guys in that section deserve it!
So to all of you ..from me..I look forward to another year of intelligent debates, clever rhymes and membership in the best damn rapsite on the net.

Love Gem

King_MC:
~The newbie, no crown~

"man this gon' be easy, lets show these 'rap dogs' who the best!" July 20th 2006 i realized i wasnt as good as i thought i was. i didnt know what multies /personals /wordplay or any thing like that was. basically i lacked the basics of rap battling. i did about 5 battles in 1 week, feeling confident with a record of 3-2, i started the cockyness. all this brought was humiliating losses and nights stayin up thinkin of whack verses. i knew what people thought of me.. i wanted to leave the damn site i was embarrassed on, rejected by crews, and got constant negative feedback on pretty much everything.. so i took a lil break..i needed to elevate.

~King_Mc, don't need a crown~

First battle back. after i did a lil time studying some of some vet battles, lookin through threads in dog training, i realized what i been missing. first thing i wanted to do is get some dignity back, the rematch callouts began.. i won every re-match i've ever done. each day i got better n better. which i tell newbies everyday that they just gotta keep @ it. i know they dont believe me when i see their name never to be on RD again. my favorite battle had to be with Anesthetic. he called me out, i almost rejected it.. i knew i was gonna lose for sure, which i did. but that battle motivated me to write the best verse i could think of. from then on, thats what i tried to do every battle, no matter who it is. At the time i thought that was gonna be my best battle verse ever.. i look back @ that shit and laugh. Alot dumb beefs i got into.. most of it was newbies callin me out just to get recognized.. remembering back when i was beefin wit tha_duke. i felt like that battle needed to be won after all the shit talkin i been doin. i was killed by him. i promised myself from then on.. dont start beef.. n if u get into beef.. DO NOT lose the battles. i havnt lost a 'beef battle' since i said that to myself. its just important to me to show whoever beefin wit me that all the shit talkin dont pay off in the end. now, my battle skills only elevating.. i get pretty much everything that battles need in my knowledge.. n im learning ALOT more.. i love seein how these newbies elevatin.. i have helped over 5 ppl so far with there battling skills n its good to see i make a difference in how much potential ppl think they dont have.. this site is the ONLY reason why i elevated.. you would see this as well seeing my first battle compared to my last, my first free compared to my last..
i love the position im in now.. RD1 mod, strong textcee, THE BEST CREW'S MEMBER!!
and i would give a paragraph on TLI but y'all prolly dont give a fuck any more what i got to say.. y'all just wanna see who the top 5 are.. LoL jk yall..
as for now tho.. keep ya eye on these newbies.. i was one once.. i know what they can do, they all got talent, they (and us) just have to find it and bring it out..and did i mention trigo almost as funny as TC? he bout to lose that crown soon if he dont step up! anyways... LET THE NEW YEAR OF 2007 ON RD COME!!!

~Shoutouts and Thanks~

::::Funniest RD Moment In 2006::::... By Trigo

I'v sent some PMs around asking members of Rapdogs to tell me what they think was the funniest moment in 2006. This is what I got back:

Shoalin says:

uhm LMFAO moment was in Mod forum PWNING cool C. But second best was:

the whole thread was funny.

T.C. wrote:
O' Travesty, my beloved son; African Americans cannot be said to eat fried chicken in an enjoyable manner, for 'tis actually a sacrificial celebration that few have any knowledge of. You see, thousands of years ago when African Americans dominated the African continent, chickens were the sole source of food and believed to be gods with feathers. Not only did the chicken teach the Black ancestors math, statistcs, english, geology and business accounting--it also taught the infants and toddlers how to walk (as you may have noticed by the occasional limping and bobbing of the head). It is because of this, my son, that African Americans eat abundant amounts of friedeth chickeneth on a daily basis.

Johnny 5 says:

T.C. wrote:
Oh, johnny 5, you pose an ever-so intriguing question. Be comforted in the fact that I can answer your inquiry:

Hatians are from Haiti--which is dangerously close to 'hate', therefore we hate them. Our president is a simpleton so he must use pictures or simple word association to make decisions and pass laws. Because he cannot read up on nation histories, he must go with what word the country sounds like most: in this case, 'hate'.

As for Cubans, they are from Cuba. Cuba sounds similar to 'cube', which has four sides. Four rhymes with 'whore'; and everyone knows that politicians love whores. Therefore, Bush is all in favor of letting Cubans into our country.

IMO, that's quite possibly the funniest shit i've ever seen.

Anesthetic says:

When L.A.S. actually thought they could beat me and Juju and Baby_Uzi. Now THAT was hilarious.

King Mc says:

not rly a 'joke'..

i found that halarious tho

Masta T says:

The Rise & Fall of Bro yao.....actually it was more like the fall...& kickin him in the face & laughing about it lol

MAK says:

hmmm.. funniest RD moment?.. well.. everyone of my posts are funny .. but on the real, I don't recall too many funny moments this year.. Although, I must say that when The Prophecy told me I'd never be able to rap better than him I almost died of laughter. hmmmmm... come to think about it, cats here aren't funny at all... so I dunno.. here's the link to the prohecy's post:

The funniest moment to me is when Abnormal posted a picture of himself wearing a pick and furry jacket..

Gemcee says:

I would say that EmceeSmythe's persistance in getting some of the RD ladies to post boobs was sidetracked by the fact that we have many male members who are extremely easy. I think I only asked twice to see some man boobs..which we now so lovingly refer to as "moobs", and almost by sheer skankyness...Maneone and T.C flashed some lovely private pics. If you look at the thread, still no lady boobs. That, to me..was extremely hilarious and all those involved in the witty display are really good sports. Especially since I sold those pictures for an incredible amount of cash.

You make no sense, like usin' 'powerpoint' to learn how to spell /
Kid, life is a journey~track, my wit's what a tourney~lack /
And my personals will make you laugh more than Bernie~Mac /

A History Of Hip-Hop: By Henry Adaso

Hip-Hop Timeline: 1925 - 2006

From Henry Adaso,

The History of Hip-Hop Music

1925: Earl Tucker (aka Snake Hips), a performer at the Cotton Club invents a dance style similar to today’s hip-hop moves.
He incorporates floats and slides into his dance style.
Similar moves would later inspire an element of hip-hop culture known as breakdancing.

1940: Tom the Great (a.k.a. Thomas Wong) uses a booming sound system to please his audience.
Wong also utilizes hip American records to steal music-lovers from local bands.

1950: The Soundclash contest between Coxsone Dodd’s “Downbeat” and Duke Reid’s “Trojan” gives birth to DJ Battling.

1956: Clive Campbell is born in Kingston, Jamaica.
Campbell would later become the father of hip-hop.

1959: Parks Commissioner Robert Moses starts building an expressway in the Bronx. zSB(3,3)

Consequently, middle class Germans, Irish, Italians, and Jewish,
neighborhoods disappear in no time. Businesses relocate away from the
borough only to be replaced by impoverished black and Hispanic
families. Along with these poor people came addiction, crime, and
unemployment.
1962:James Brown records Live At The Apollo. Brown’s
drummer Clayton Fillyau influences a sound that is now known as the
break beat. The break beat would later inspire the b-boy movement, as
breakers danced to these beats at block parties.

1965: In a historic boxing bout, Muhammad Ali (born Cassius
Clay) defeats Sonny Liston in the 6th round. Before the bout, however,
Ali recited one of the earliest known rhymes:

Clay comes out to meet Liston

And Liston starts to retreat

If Liston goes back any further

He'll end up in a ringside seat.

Clay swings with a left,

Clay swings with a right,

Look at young Cassius

Carry the fight.

Liston keeps backing

But there's not enough room

It's a matter of time...

1967: Clive Campbell migrates to the United States at the age
of 11. Because of his size, kids at Alfred E. Smith High School
nickname him Hercules. He would later become a writer and change his
name to Kool Herc.

1968: A gang named Savage Seven would hit the streets of the
East Bronx. Savage Seven later transforms into Black Spades, before
eventually becoming an organization known as Zulu Nation.

1969: James Brown
records two songs that would further influence the drum programming in
today’s rap – “Sex Machines” with John Starks playing the drums and
“Funky Drummer” with Clyde Stubblefield on the drums.

1970: DJ U-Roy invades Jamaican pop charts with three top ten
songs using a style known as toasting.
The Last Poets release their self-titled debut album on Douglas Records
combining jazz instrumentations with heartfelt spoken word. (The Last
Poets would later appear on Common’s 2005 rap anthem, “The Corner.")

1971: Aretha Franklin records a well-known b-boy song “Rock
Steady." The Rock Steady crew would go on to rule in the world of
break-dancing, with members all across the globe.

1972: The Black Messengers (a group that staged performances
for The Black Panthers and rallies relating to black power movement)
feature on The Gong Show.
However, they are only allowed to perform under the alias "Mechanical Devices," because of their controversial name.

1973: DJ Kool Herc deejays his first block party (his
sister's birthday) at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, Bronx, NY. Herc would often
buy two copies of a record and stretch the break parts by using two
turntables and mixing in both records before the break ends.
The Zulu Nation is officially formed by a student of Stevenson High
school named Kevin Donovan. Donovan later changed his name to Afrika
Bambaataa Aasim in honor of an ancient Zulu chief.

1974: After seeing DJ Kool Herc perform at block parties,
Grandmaster Caz, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa start playing
at parties all over the Bronx neighborhoods. Around this time,
DJ/MC/Crowd Pleaser Lovebug Starski starts referring to this culture as
"hip-hop."

1975:

* Herc is hired as a DJ at the Hevalo Club.
* He later gets Coke La Rock to utter crowd-pleasing rhymes at
parties (e.g."DJ Riz is in the house and he'll turn it out without a
doubt"). Coke La Rock and Clark Kent form the first emcee team known as
Kool Herc & The Herculoids.
* DJ Grand Wizard Theodore accidentally invents 'the
scratch.' While trying to hold a spinning record in place in order to
listen to his mom, who was yelling at him, Grand Wizard accidentally
caused the record to produce the “shigi-shigi” sound that is now known
as the scratch. Scratch is the crux of modern deejaying.

1976: DJ Afrika Bambaataa performs at the Bronx River Center.
Bambaataa’s first battle against Disco King Mario sparks off the DJ
battling that is now embedded in the culture.

1977:

* The Rock Steady Crew (the most respected
b-boy crew in history) is formed by the original four members: JoJo,
Jimmy Dee, Easy Mike, and P-Body.
* DJ Kool Herc is nearly stabbed to death at one of his
parties. Although the assault placed a permanent dent on Herc's career,
Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Disco Wiz (the first Latino DJ),
and Disco King Mario kept performing around town.

1978:

* Kurtis Blow, who was being managed by Russell Simmons, decides to hire Simmons’ brother, Run, as his DJ.
* Run was so-called because he could cut so fast between two turntables.
* Kurtis would later become the first rapper to be signed to a major record deal.
* Music industry coins the term "rap music," and shifts its focus toward emcees.
* Grandmaster Caz (aka Cassanova Fly) and Bambaataa engage in a battle at the Police Athletic League.

1979:

* Grandmaster Flash forms one of the most influential rap groups
ever, The Furious 5: Grandmaster Flash (Joseph Saddler), Melle Mel
(Melvin Glover), Kidd Creole (Nathaniel Glover), Cowboy (Keith
Wiggins), Raheim (Guy Williams), and Mr. Ness (Eddie Morris).
* Around the same time, another great rap crew – The Cold Crush
Four – was formed, comprising of Charlie Chase, Tony Tone, Grand Master
Caz, Easy Ad, JDL, and Almighty KG.
* The first rap record by a non-rap group “King Tim III” is recorded by the Fatback Band.
* Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper's Delight” would go on to become the first known rap hit, reaching #36 on Billboard.
* Various obscure rap singles were also released: Grandmaster
Flash & The Furious 5’s “Super-rappin” and Spoonie Gee’s “Spoonin’
Rap” both on Enjoy Records, Kurtis Blow’s “Christmas Rappin” on Mercury
Records, and Jimmy Spicer’s 13-minute long storytelling track
“Adventures of Super Rhymes” on Dazz Records. zSB(3,3)
* Mr. Magic’s ‘Rap Attack’ becomes the first hip-hop radio show on WHBI.

1980:

* Afrika Bambaata and the Zulu Nation release their first 12" called Zulu Nation Throwdown Pt. 1 on Paul Winley Records.
* Kurtis Blow, the first rapper to appear on national television
(Soul Train), releases "The Breaks" on Mercury Records. The record goes
on to sell more than a million copies. Hip-hop gradually evolves into
big business.
* After meeting Fab 5 Freddy and others, Blonde releases "Rapture" featuring rap vocals by lead singer Debbie Harry.

1981:

* Grandmaster Flash releases “The Adventures of Grand
Master Flash on the Wheels of Steel," the first record to ultimately
capture the sounds of live DJ scratching on wax.
*

On February 14th, The Funky 4 plus One More perform their classic hit,
“That's The Joint” on NBC's Saturday Night Live becoming the first hip
hop group to appear on national television.
*

The Beastie Boys are formed. The group consists of Adam Horovitz (King Ad-Rock), Adam Yauch (MCA), Michael Diamon (Mike D).

1982:

* Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force release
the techno-heavy “Planet Rock” on Tommy Boy Records. The record samples
portions of Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express."
* Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 release “The Message” on Sugarhill Records.
* Kool Moe Dee humiliates Busy Bee in a spontaneous rap battle.
Since then, emcee battling has become an inseparable part of hip-hop.
* Fab 5 Freddy and Charlie Ahearn co-produce Wild Style,
a hip-hop film featuring Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmaster Flash,
Grandwizard Theodore, DJ AJ, Grandmixer D.S.T, graf writers Lee,
Zephyr, Fab 5 Freddy, Lady Pink, Crash, Daze, Dondi, and members of the
Rock Steady Crew. Wild Style has since inspired several other hip-hop-themed movies.

1983:

* Ice T helps pioneer gangsta rap in the west coast with his rapcore singles “Body Rock" and "Killers."
* Grand Master Flash and Melle Mel (Furious 5) record the
anti-cocaine single “White Lines (Don't Do It)," which becomes a rap
hit.
* Grandmaster Flash later sues Sugarhill Records for $5
million in royalties. The dispute causes the group to break up,
signaling the looming danger of corporate control in hip-hop.
* Run DMC releases “It's Like That" b/w "Sucker MC's."

1984

* Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin team up to launch one
of the most important record labels ever, Def Jam Records. Def Jam
releases its first record, “It’s Yours” by T La Rock, followed by LL
Cool J’s “I Need A Beat."
* Hip-hop discovers that touring is a great way to generate
income, as the Fresh Fest concert featuring Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Fat
Boys, and Run DMC, reels in $3.5 million for 27 dates.
* Battle rap assumes the spotlight in hip-hop, as UTFO’s “Roxanne Roxanne” diss song attracts over 100 responses.
* The most popular response came from a 14-year old female named
Roxanne Shante. Shante’s “Roxanne’s Revenge” allegedly recorded in
Marley Marl’s living room sold more than 250,000 copies.
* Dougie Fresh (aka The Entertainer) releases The Original Human Beat Box (Vindertainment Records).
* Michael Jackson does 'the moonwalk' at the Grammys, borrowing b-boy dance elements from LA breakers.

1985

* Sugarhill Records goes into bankruptcy and is forced out of business.
* Salt ‘n’ Pepa make their first appearance on Super Nature’s “The Show Stopper."

1986

*
* The Beastie Boys release Licensed To Ill on Def Jam (executive-produced by Rick Rubin).
* James Smith, a native of Houston, Texas, assembles The Geto
Boys. The original lineup consisted of MCs Raheim, Jukebox, DJ Ready
Red, and Sir Rap-A-Lot.
* The group also featured Little Billy, a dancing dwarf who later picked up the microphone as Bushwick Bill.
* Following a short break-up in 1988, Smith invited local emcee
Willie D and multi-instrumentalist Akshun (later known as Scarface) to
complete the lineup.
* The Geto Boys (now made up of Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill) was a driving force in the evolution of southern rap.

1987

* Following the release of Boogie Down Productions’ Criminal Minded LP, Scott LaRock is shot and killed in the South Bronx while attempting to settle a dispute.

Simmons opts for distribution through CBS/Columbia Records, while Rubin
goes on to found Def American.
* Landmark album releases: Ultramagnetic MC’s – Critical Breakdown, and Big Daddy Kane – Long Live The Kane.

1989

* After a life-long battle with crack addiction, Cowboy, a member of Grandmaster Flash’s Furious 5 dies at the age of 28.
* A group of high school friends join the Native Tongues as
promoters of the Afrocentricity Movement to make African-Americans
aware of their heritage.
* These Manhattan-based friends would later form A Tribe Called Quest (Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife Dawg, and Jarobi).
* A Dallas-based protégé of Dr. Dre known as D.O.C releases No One Can Do It Better. While the album was making rounds on the charts, D.O.C. found himself in a severe car crash.

* KRS-ONE, with the support of Professor Z, Chuck D, Big Daddy
Kane, Kool DJ Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Fat Joe, and others announced the
establishment of a Hip Hop preservation society called the Temple of
Hiphop. The purpose of the Temple of Hiphop is to assist in the
building of Hip Hop as a legitimate community of prosperous and
peace-filled people.

1997

* The Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace), is shot and killed
March 9, after a party at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los
Angeles. Like Pac's murder, Biggie's death is still an unsolved
mystery.

* the Temple of Hiphop announced every third week in May as Hip
Hop Appreciation Week - a time set aside to assess the progress of the
‘conscious' Hip Hop movement as well as one's own role within such a
movement. The Temple of Hiphop would also be an advocate against
corporate greed and the selfish exploitation of Hip Hop's intellectual
properties. The point was (and still is) to live Hip Hop.

1999

* Backed by producer Dr. Dre, Eminem zooms past racial hurdles and sells 4 million copies of his debut, The Slim Shady LP.
* Production duo The Neptunes (Chad Hugo & Pharrell
Williams) dominate the airwave with a string of radio hits, including

are in a different New York state of mind. After years of subliminal
sniping, they finally take the gloves off and engage in a highly
controversial lyrical face-off.
* After Nas dropped "Ether," an earth-shattering response to
Jay's equally venemous "Takeover," Jay re-emerges with "Super Ugly,"
(rhymed over Nas' "Got Yourself a Gun") in which Hov spilled his sexual
relationship with Nas' baby-mama to disgusting effect. New York's Hot 97 FM asks call-in voters to decide a winner.
* As votes are being tallied, Jay rushes to Hot 97 and offers an
apology for the kiss-and-tell lyrics. His apology fails to deny Nas an
outstanding victory. Regardless, fans would forever debate the battle.
* The first set of thirty-two Hip Hop principles toward peace;
co-authored by KRS-ONE, Pop Master Fables, Ralph Mc Daniels, Afrika
Bambaataa, Harry Allen and others was declared "the Hiphop Declaration

2001. At the same ceremony the Temple of Hiphop, Ribbons International,
the United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

and prosperity.

* Malik B is booted from The Roots following a drug use problem.

2003

* Eminem becomes the new focus of a debate on hip-hop and racism
after some unidentified friends of the rapper submitted a tape of him
using the N-word and making several derogatory remarks about the
African-American community.
* Sample lyrics from the Eminem tape: "Black girls are b****es/
That's why I'ma tell ya you better pull up your britches/'Cause all
that cash is making your a** drag. On another song, he rhymes: "Black
girls and white girls just don't mix/Because Black girls are dumb and
white girls are good chicks."
* The Source uses the tape to renew their anti-Eminem
campaign, even releasing a CD version of the "racist tape." In
response, Eminem apologizes publicly and claims the rap was done out of
teen angst following a break-up with a black girlfriend.

"I did and said a lot of stupid s**t when I
was a kid, but that's part of growing up," said Eminem in a statement.
"The tape of me rapping 15 years ago as a teenager that was recently
put out by The Source in no way represents who I was then or who I am
today."

* Federal investigators raid the New York offices of Murder
Inc., the record label home of Ja Rule and Ashanti, as part of an

link between Gotti and a New York drug gang called the "Supreme Team."

Jimmy James Johnson approaches rap legend Dr. Dre, who was preparing to
receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, and punches him in the face. A
full-on brawl ensues during which Johnson gets stabbed.
* After reviewing tape of the melee, authorities identify the
stabber as G-Unit rapper Young Buck, a member of Dr. Dre's entourage.
Suge Knight, who also crashed the event, later denies allegations that
he had promised Johnson $5000 to assault Dr. Dre.
* P.Diddy's "Citizen Change" campaign adopts the slogan 'Vote
or Die' in a bid to convince young people to vote in November's U.S.
Presidential elections.
* Wu-Tang member ODB dies inside a recording studio two days before his 36th birthday.

2005

* The "Miss Jones Morning Show" crew on Hot 97 FM
sparks outrage by playing the "Tsunami Song," a racist parody of "We
Are the World" that ridicules victims of the South Asian tidal wave
that killed almost 300,000 people. The "Miss Jones" is temporarily
yanked off the air.
* Jay-Z and Nas end their long-running feud at the former's Power 105.1 concert in New York.

My favorite answer: Shoalin says :"T.C. , I'd join... only if he jumps on a couch.'

Most likely to be in Rd Yearbook class of 2010: King Mc, Anesthetic
My favorite answer: Divine Write said: "Why stop at just four years?" followed by a sad face. Awww.

Brought to you by the Fabolous Emcee known as Flawless.

State Ya full name and alias: CJ Gibbs AKA The Black Republican. Better known to you guys as Anesthetic.
How'd u come up with Anesthetic? Well, see, I kinda see myself as going into a dream-like state when I spit rhymes. Anesthetics induce lacks of feelings and some even induce sleep. So hey, there you go.
Where you from? Memphis Ten-A-Ki. The Dirty Dime, homez.
You still out there now? Yeah. KING OF THE BURBS BABY.. Lol..
Lol. How old are you? We'll round up cuz my b-day is in less than 3 weeks. 17.
Goin to school? Yeah, man. Junior.
Got any jobs on the side? Nah man. No jobs at all. I think I might go and get one. Work at Aldo or Aeropostale or somethin.
You got a shorty? Don't call 'em shortiez. I call 'em options. And yeah, you can say I have a main squeeze with some options on the side.
Oh word...how long you and shorty been together..Lol..? About a week actually. Don't tell anyone but she's just a rebound for the moment. Ssshhhh. ;-)
I got you pimp.. Now, how'd u get into the whole rap thing? Man, honestly. Rap has just always been a thing of mine. I started rhyming in the third grade, then in the fifth grade I started serious battling. Went through middle school building my rep throughout the 'city school circuit' Lol.. 8th grade I became a real lyricist, and now here I am.
Dope...what was the first rap song/cd you ever listened to? First rap song I can remember hearing is Rakim "I ain't no joke"
You listen to anything besides rap? Oh yeah. I listen to rock. And soft rock. Punk rock, too. R&B too.
Word.. How long you been text battlin online? Hmmm. It's been about 4 years now. I started on Star Trak, moved to Kali then Goldmic, then like four other ones. Now I'm on the Best. RD baby.
What was the first rhyme you ever wrote about, back in the 3rd grade? Yeah. I still remember it vividly.
What was it about? Lol. The lunchroom. And this fat guy that wanted to battle me.
Lol oh word. Who do you look up to on the site? Uhm. Gopha and Divine Write. Gopha for the battling type ISH, and Divine for off-topic stuff. The man's a beast. Guys like You and Kaos too.
Goodlooks man. No prob.
Do you do audio too? I've been in the booth a couple times and dropped some gold on some of my homie's trackz. Nothin on my own though, nah.
So then, no cds or nothin huh? Nah, none for me man. Lol.Sorry.
Aight...so, how is hiphop doin nowadays, in your opinion? Hip hop itself is still alive and breathing. But RAP, which is something totally different, is the bastard step-child. Hip-Hop gives you people like The Heiroglyphics, Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, And Murs. Rap gives you garbage like 50 Cent, Game, Young Jeezy.
Who are your influences in hiphop? Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, KRS-One, Eminem, Apathy, Lupe Fiasco, Jedi Mind Tricks, and Wu Tang.
I feel u. What do you think of beef in hiphop? I think that 'Beef' in Hip-Hop should be kept to the essence. You got a problem with someone as a person? Then take it to them, man to man. You just gotta beef with them on wax? Then just keep it on wax like they used to do back in the day. Busy Bee V Kool Moe Dee. LL V Canibus. None of this publicity stunt garbage....50 Cent...
Right right..Do you plan to make it into the game? I mean, I know a couple people who ARE in the game. But as for me, I don't have any aspirations for it. I mean, I think it'd be sweet if I could make it as a ghostwriter for somebody... But I mean.. If some guy offers me money to do something I love, then yeah, I'd take it.
I feel you.. Who are the best 5 rappers of all time? Rakim, KRS-One, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z
Not pac huh? Surprising. Lol, nah. I think Pac is overrated.
..Interesting..Is rapdogs the best forum out there? Hell yes.
Would you change anything on the site if you could? Uhm. I'd change the colors, Lol. And I'd make myself an admin. LOL..
Lol. Who is the best on the site, active or not? Hmmm. Best. I can't pick just one. Battler: Gopha, Ju, or Sinis. Off-Topic: Kaos, Flawless, and myself. All-Around: Me. Bar none.
Gotta have that confidence...I feel you. The best crew? Of all time?
Yup. Hmmm.. D.O.E. !!!
Anyone you would ever want to bring back to the site, whos not active, or got kicked off for some reason? I'd bring ToxN back, so he could be my bitch again.
Lol. Do you have a best friend on the site? Uhhh. 'Best friend' is kinda homo. I got some headz that are my homiez. Everyone in D.O.E. of course. Gemcee. Illbert Rhymestein. Uhm... Divine. If I forgot anyone, please forgive me.
Lol...right. Least favorite member? Hmm..I don't really have one. I like everyone.
True. What do you want to be remembered for when you say goodbye to RD? Being a great mod. A great mind. And a great MC. Battling and otherwise.
Anything you wanna take care of before you leave? Beat Gopha. Never done that. And uhm.. Get some titles going and whatnot. Oh, and freestyle with Kaos.
What label would you sign with if you could? Roc-A-Fella
If you could hop on a track with anyone, who would it be? Rakim, KRS-One, or Hova.
Any last words? Uhm. Shouts out to everyone on RD. Everyone who helped me put this mag together. You for interviewing me. Just everybody out there. And I plan on making 2007 an EVEN better year for myself, and for the rd community.
Last Thoughts
I'd just like to take htis time ot thank everyone who contributed portions to this yearbook. The job was monumental, and I regained an old respect I had for people who took over the mag after I relinquished my editing spot over it. I'll try not to be all emotional and such, but this REALLY is the best online Hip-Hop community I've been apart. From everyone to the old headz who drop back in one and a while, to the young guns who drop in everyday with posts like 'Come on and get merked!!' Lol.. Just wanna say keep it up, and continue to do your part in making this the best hip-hop community out there.
