A thought occurred to me... where are the CLASSIC ( i do not take this word lightly at all) albums since 1996(1997+)
i don't mean dope/nice/sick ablums(9/10), i am talking 10/10
i smoke a lot and have bad memory but i can only think of two/three since 1996 reflection eternal and one day it will all make sense, and now maybe? falling down (jesht, he british.)
also, what/why defines a classic album or is there a definition,
do you go track for track, creativity, relevance, longevity, originality, universially accepted as a classic or is it personnel. What is the definition of a perfect album?

An Album, to me, is a classic when it meets all these criteria

1. Original - meaning that the lyrics and style is fresh, new and nothing in it has been heard before.
2. Lyrical Skill - Talking about how much money you have on 8/14 tracks pisses me off. Wack artists like Cash money are the one's who usually do this... and also No Limit. I need some Lyrical Depth, structure, vocabulary, multiple rhymes and metaphores.
3. Enjoyability - This is probably the one that drops most of the other would-be classics, such as Quality by Talib Q. this album was very nice.. but.. to me it bores me at times.. while The eternal one with Hi tek was bowb. Nas' Illmatic is an example of an enjoyable album.. it had every track specially made for any mood you are in.. from reflective (one love) to chilln' (represent) to a killin' ( Ny State of Mind) and one of tha greatest and most entertaining ( life's a bitch)
4. Poetic/political message..- If an album is just about riding, killing, flipin' scripts and the usual Maintstream hip hop shit... It pisses me off.. this is what truly makes a classic album... does this drum banging and sampling mixed with strings and a catchy hook make any sense? does it mean anything to me or to society?

Fuck tha Source...

Most of it comes down to presence on the mic, dre, wutang, pac and the rest all have a laid back style, and still manage to keep a fairly dominant presence on the mic. That and the beats make the album more classic sounding than anything, but the reason you don't hear much of it anymore, is that style of rap has faded over the past few years. Some can keep it alive because they were around in the days it started, but it seems new rappers have a more "whining" presence on the mic, to me atleast.

now i dont see wot makes the marshall mathers lp from eminem 10/10.its got sum pretty legendary songs on it but the best eminem cd is either encore or the slim shady lp.he just bin gettin better as he goes.

NO DUDE. Encore was crap compared to his others. Seriously. He was so multi-faceted on his first three, then Encore came out and was shitty. Marshall Mathers LP was great because it had polars. You get Stan, then Kim, then you get something like The Real Slim Shady, then something like The Way I am. That album is classic, no doubt.

i got all the eminem cd's part from the 1st 1 and personally i fink dat encore is the best he released.it wernt as much rap as the old ones were but dats the only cd i ever listen to.theres songs like never enough, mockingbird, just lose it,one shot 2 shot,my 1st single, ass like dat, rain man, encore and like toy soldiers.
but i jus fort of anuva classic cd.a grand dont come for free by the streets. sum og the words dont make sense but wen u listen 2 the cd all the way thru, u realise how amazin it is.the cd runs as 1 big story of wot happened in a week of his life.its quality
