Newbie Tip of the Week
Need help for rhymes, definitions, and other English-esque topics.
www.rhymezone.com is the place.

Battle of the Week
We had two this week, I couldn’t choose between them.

Cage vs. aMERiKaZ NiGHTMaRE (http://www.rapdogs.com/message-board-forum/viewtopic.php?t=54295)
Cage surprised me on this one, good verses from both sides.

King MC vs. Young Ju (http://www.rapdogs.com/message-board-forum/viewtopic.php?t=54056)
Another hot battle gracing our monitors. But AGAIN KMC came out on top.

Stand Up Comedians

Gopha vs. Cats Pajamas

Jackass Wall
If you ask me, the members at Rapdogs have really been cleaning up they act and so this week, there are no jackasses. Look at the AE1 forum, no one has been accused of nothing, beefs have generally went down, and there really isn’t no stupid behavior going on. So members, pat your self on the back.

Whatever You Like – Nicole Scherzinger Feat. T.I.
This track is party fire, and the verse from T.I. compliments it nicely.

Common’s classic track, he truly is Finding Forever in hip-hop’s history, and this is a classic example. Nice Throwback.

Album of the Week
Artist: Pharoahe Monch
Album: Desire
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewed By: J-23

Considering that Pharoahe Monch is the type of emcee that comes along once in a lifetime, having to wait some 8 years between solo albums is inhuman and cruel. After splitting from Prince Po and their too often overlooked Organized Konfusion union, the southside Queens native finally got the shine he deserved...well sort of. At the height of Rawkus Records popularity and on the strength of his smash single Simon Says, Pharoahe was on his way to a platinum plaque. That is until an uncleared sample forced them to stop all promotion and pull every record from the shelve. Internal Affairs ended up fizzling out around the gold mark, Rawkus soon folded and Pharoahe went into hiatus.

A couple years of rumors that he was signing to Shady, an 8 month delay from his original release date and here we are with Desire. Despite signing with Steve Rifkin’s SRC rather than with Marshall, Monch still has Mr. Porter (bka Denaun Porter of D12) executive producing the album. Don’t get it twisted, there are no Purple Pills here, Desire is Pharoahe doing what Pharoahe does best; Rap.

Funny enough, the album may become best known for the track where Pharoahe does as much singing as he does rhyming. Body Baby has drawn some comparisons to Gnarls Barkley, but its P’s Elvis swagger in the hook that will really catch some attention. While it’s a great song and single, it isn’t where he shines brightest. Those moments come in a few other places. His chops on Body Baby may get more notice, but it’s Push where Pharoahe really brings the soul over some equally expressive horns. His triumphant return on the album’s title track is one. Over Alchemist’s best production in a minute he brings the lyrics; “I embody antibiotics, you are infected by germs/rap’s fatally ill, please get the serum.” Then again, when it comes to lyrics you’ve really gotta point to When The Gun Draws, the sequel to his classic Stray Bullet (where do you think Nas got the idea for I Gave You Power?). Let’s Go may lack the conceptual brilliance of When The Gun Draws, but it hardly lacks P getting stupid with the wordplay; “listen man, stop snitchin man/you use to sex to sell, and your next to tell/to sprint, everything you represent is immoral/singular, not plural/you and your sidekick get rid of that wack trio/I freeze emcees zero degrees below/the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.”

All the jaw dropping moments above still don’t measure up to the apex of Desire; the 3 part, 9 minute, 24 second epic called Trilogy. With the help of Mr. Porter, Dwele and Tone respectively, Pharoahe weaves a story of love, friendship, infidelity, revenge and murder – in reverse – with exquisite execution. They may not be the cream of the crop, but the album is still rounding out by a handful of dope tracks, most notably his excellent cover of Public Enemy’s Welcome To The Terrordome and the bedroom music that is So Good.

A title like Desire can be taken in any number of ways. One way is to assume he is alluding to his desire to create timeless art. When so much music is just churned out in the interest of making a quick buck, it is impossible not to take notice when an artist of this caliber displays their craft at the highest level. Whatever Pharoahe’s aspiration was, let’s just hope it inspires other rappers to step their fucking games up and try and compete with his Desire..

Beef Section

Nemesis -vs.- King MC

My my..... really a lot of commotion for nothing, but interesting at the same time. Started with the Underrated/Overrated (http://www.rapdogs.com/message-board-forum/viewtopic.php?t=25980&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=390url) Thread.

Over rated: King MC no beef just I use to really enjoy your battles, now i don’t really care for em

With that KMC was quick to respond with a blow of his own

LMAO. Nem, your whack at everything you do,(gfx, mags, topicals/text) don’t judge my battles when you have no knowledge on how to even battle yourself dumbass

Obliviously Nem took offense to that. With a comment like that Nem clearly thought differently and threw shots in his sig.... obviously the scorn for each other elevated to MSN. KMC wanted "The Game" sig Nemesis made earlier and considered it a "peace offering." Nemesis rejected the request, and so the onslaught of hate elevated again. In the shadows of MSN they continued the quarrel. KMC never let down the fact Nemesis was whack but soon apologized and reviewed his topical, In return of the apology... Nem grant KMC's request for the sig.

Throwback Battle
First ‘RD3’ battle, and it was real nice. Sinis won 5-2, but both came hard. I miss those times, lol. Check It.

Re-Release Therapy

PuErToRicAnChIca13, I miss this girl immensly. We haven't seen her in awhile but that is exactly why I do Re-Release Therapy, to reminisce about some of our nicest writers. She's somebody who wrote with raw emotion, she wasn't shy about really expressing herself and she had really grown as a lyricist before she left. She didn't take shit from anyone and she could handle all the big dogs on RD. She also was one of the very few females who had the balls to throw up some hits in the audio section. She has since taken her trax down. Take a peek and enjoy.

What They Think Of…
…The E-Zine

LYRICS:
“i really like it i like to see whos elevatin in battles and open mic and enjoy reading it cause theres always something funny lol”

KMA:
“I think you're doing a good job with it, from the issues I've seen…
what I like most about yours is the fact that you stick to the style that Annie, Tox, and I used... I didn't like it when Ju was doing it, it felt too different... and the other mags try to do unique shit, but you just stick to the basics it seems, and I dig that…
plus you kept my Magic Markers, haha”

Magic Markers
Just use your mouse to highlight this section and find the secret message.

“The Dogg Pound is the shit”, says lost competition Nemesis14 and B.Earth.

TiVo Time
Keith Murray Feat. Tyrese- “Nobody Do It Better” (http://videos.onsmash.com/v/vZ9LxfAjphaXARM6)
Murray back at it with a hot new single, CD should be out this year. I love hip-hop vets returning, and making 2007 sound like 1997. Lol.

Behind The Bars: KMA

State Ya Name Gangsta: Max Kaiser
Who Gave You The Nickname KMA? Me. Haha, lame.
Have You Been Called By Any Other Alliases? The Light Side, The Boy Wonder, Homey Wyoming, Et-2, The Melodic Manifestation... uhm, probably others I'm forgetting. People like to call me shit.
So dawg.. where you killin cats? Was in Arizona, but I'm in Wyoming again for the Summer and it's looking like I'll be stuck here this year. So I guess Chey-town Wyoming.
Years of Wisdom: Sixteen and a hizzalf.
Where Do You Attend School? Unsure at the moment, given my living situation.
Goin To College To Be A … ? Dunno if I'll make it to college. I'd like to stick with rap and be a Jukie someday, but I'm thinking that won't go far, so I'd probably better put some thought into that, huh?
Until Then, Any Job?: Carpentry with my pops.
Relationship Status? Single, but kinda still tied up with a girl. It's weird, like all teenage relations.
What Do You Look For In A Girl? (Focus In Ho's): They have to be smart, fershure. I can't be with a girl that doesn't get my jokes, or can't appreciate my wit, you know? And of course, she has to be HAWT! Hawt like Annie. :D
Other Than Myself.. Biggest Influences In Life: My father, definitely.
A Quote To Remember: 'I'm not an asshole, I'm just a little confused' - Aesop Rock

… Moving Past The Bio …

What Was The First Hip Hop Song You Ever Heard? Hmm... couldn't say, it's been in my life since I was tiny, because my older brothers would always listen to it. I've had words to BONE Thugz and 2pac songs memorized pretty much my whole life from that. But it was probably 'Thug Luv' or 'Ambitionz Az A Ridah'.
What Was The First Hip Hop CD You Ever Bought? Haha.... that's an embarrassing one. But it was an ICP. Can't recall which one, but yeah. Thankfully, I've grown outta that.
What / Who Got You Into Rapping? Well, I've always been into it... but probably what got me into it seriously was my buddy Cody, because he fucked around writing raps on occasion too, and we just started writing a lot.
Any Other Genre Of Music You Listen To, Or Have.. That You Like Or Has Influenced You? Well, definitely Sublime influences me. Gotta give respect to Big Bob Marley. I like classic rock a lot, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (favorite old rock), I REALLY dig a lot of old disco. I dunno. I like a lotta shit. I just can't stand country, or punk rock, or screamo shit.
Why Text Battle? Well, when I started looking for a forum it was when I'd been living in Wyoming for a year, I think, and as I'm sure you can guess there aren't a lot of other emcees to battle/cypher with/share lyrics with, so I had to find other facets.
Do Your Parents Know That You Battle? My pops does, and he totally approves. He thinks I'm very talented, despite the fact that he hates rap.
When Did You First Start Writing Verses? I think the very first real verse I wrote was in fifth grade.
What Was It About? No idea. Mainstream rap was all I had been exposed to at that point, so probably hoez and gunz, haha.
Who Has Helped You The Most In Your Pursuit Of Becoming An Artist? Depends on what you mean. Like, a real artist who gets paid for what he does? Or just an expressor of himself? Well for the former, my buddy Jared (Rurouni Black) who took my by his recording spot a few times cuz he knew I spit and thought I was good, and we wound up forming Fluency and making tracks together (which you can find on Myspace, hint hint :P ). For the latter, my brother, who some of you older heads may remember as Dascyple, who jumped on RD after I did and we just started helping one another elevate.
Have You Produced Any Songs, Mixtapes, CDs, Or Plan To In The Future? I have a lot of songs I've recorded. I burned a few copies of 'New Groove' which had seven KMA songs and three Fluency songs, I think, and passed it around school. Not sure if that counts though, haha.
What's Your View On 'The Industry'? It sucks. Fuck it.
Haha...How Far Do You Think You Will Make It In 'The Game'? No idea. I think once I finally get my license  and I can transport myself to a studio and not have to rely on others, I'll have a better idea. But I think I have the motivation and the talent to at least make it to a couple shows. But fuck, that's probably what every deadbeat rapper thinks, ha.
When Will You Quit? Not anytime soon, I know that. I'll probably be writing forever, but I may give up on trying to make it as an emcee in my mid-20's when I figure out it isn't going anywhere, haha.
Who Are Your Top 5 Rappers Out Now? Uhm... in no particular order, Aesop Rock, Slug, Copywrite, Eyedea, and Murs. Haha... four white fellows and one black fellow for a top 5, I'm sure that's an E-Zine first.
What Album Do You Got In Your CD Player? Fast Cars, Danger, Fire And Knives - Aesop
How’d You Come Across RapDogs? Haha... for some reason I wound up playing one of the old games, if anybody remembers the games, it was the one where you were the yeti and you'd throw snowballs at the penguins. It was so crazy because I had been looking for a forum to go on at the time, and I wasn't even looking for one when I started playing that game. Then when I got bored and looked at other games on the site, I was like 'Oh shit, a rap forum!' So yeah.
So Why Do You Stay? Do I even stay much? Haha... well the people are a big incentive. I've made a lot of good friends on this site. And it's still pretty much the only place where I can find fellow emcees. Plus, other forums are gay, I love the Dogs color scheme cuz it's easy on the eyes, and the rules around here are pretty chill. Plus we have the best Admin on the web.
If You Could Make One Change On The Site, What Would It Be? Uhh... force Logikal to be around.
Who U Think Is Top 3 On Rap Dogs? Ju and Ru, for getting as far as they have... aaaaaaand even though I didn't like his style at first, I gotta say Cats_Pajamas. It just grew on me, the way he writes. I dig it.
For As Long As You’ve Been A Member I Have To Ask Ya.. What’s The Best Thing That You’ve Seen Happen On The Site? Hmm... that's a toughie. The formation of the RDTL. When I wanted to battle and I'd have to wait for somebody to accept my call out... ehh, pain in the ass.
If You Could Bring Back One Member That Isn’t Around Now, Who Would It Be? LOGIKAL!!!
Who’s Your Best Friend On RD? Ack! That one's hard. Even though I don't talk to either of them much anymore ( ) it's be between Annie or Furi (Omzack I think is what he goes by now).
Who’s Your Least Favorite RD Member? I really don't think I have one. Everybody's pretty chill around here. If I had to answer, I'd have to say somebody that isn't around, Lockz. He kept freeposting in Gem's thread and ignoring the rules, and then he kept making stupid disses to me and ducked my callouts to battle.
How Do You Want People To Remember You When You Leave? Well, I can't be remembered as a good battler, haha... my win loss record is pretty pathetic. So just that really funny kid that was E-Zine editor.
Lol...What Do You Want To Accomplish On RapDogs Before You Leave For Good? Well, I dunno if there's much more I need to accomplish. I'm respected as a member (I think I still am) and as a dropper of ill Freestyle and Open Mic pieces, so that's enough for me.
If You Could Get Signed To Any Label, It Would Be...? Definitive Jux or Rhymesayers. Can't decide.
If You Could Do A Collabo With Any Artist..? Oh... that's too hard. Probably Slug, because that means I'd get to meet him, haha. He seems like an awesome guy and I love his writing style. I get a lot of my inspiration from him.

… For My Sake …

What Did You Think Of This Interview? Well, KMA was being interviewed, of course it was great!
Who Would You Like To See Interviewed Next? Logikal. But it won't happen. I was actually lucky enough to do a Logikal interview when I was running the mag, but I did it on my cousin's computer and I forgot to email it to myself and I didn't get to go to his house for like, a year after that. So I cried all day. I'm still bummed about it.

… Finally …

Any ShoutOuts? / Fairwells? / Comments? Support your local hip hop scene, support your fellow emcees, smoke weed every day, RapDogs is the greatest rap forum ever, Jeebin's a great mag editor, Magic Markers is the shit, KMA is the shit, and Annie, have dinner ready when I get home. Oh, and many thanks for the interview. Peace.

Be On The Lookout…
Next week, if no RDTL mag, I will incorporate more of the RDTL in here. I’ve been waiting on one for a while, and no-show. Oh well, also if you have ideas for sections and want to do them, just PM them to me, that’s how Nem got in.
