I love scary movies!!!I've always said why use fake blood if you can't use a shitload of it ..am I right people?
The original Hills have eyes is pretty creepy for being done in the late 70's/early 80's...and pretty violent for that time. The remakes of those movies are both pretty gory--and disturbing..especially if your a lady. The only really cheesy thingabout the second one..is how retarded they make the Army guys look.
I really like Rob Zombies..Devils rejects and house of 1000 corpses..visually, mentally--all very crazy.
As for trippy horror--like not really gory but mentally crazy--In THe MOuth of Madness is one of my faves..I doubt anyones seen it but I urge you to do so.
And Pans Labrynth...as an adult fantasy movie...there is some awesome imagery and dark characters.

Now it is time for the Horror King to chim in.
The best horror movie I ever watched. That is a hard question. I've seen so many.
Hhhmmm. Without thinking I would say Saw. The first one. In my opinion that is a masterpiece. The traps were they best in the first one and the ending in untouchable. When he clicked on that tape recorder and Jigsaw got up, I almost shit myself. That ending got and I did not see it coming at all. And if you say that you did see it coming you're a liar.
The sequels were okay but they shouldn't have made them. The first was so great that no sequal could better it.
The second one was predictable but the traps were better. I like the needle pit the best. It still doesn't top the "reverse venus fly-trap" ( As Jigsaw puts it) placed on the Amanda characters' head. I really wanted to see it rip her jaw of though. The second was more violent but not violent anough for my taste.
The third one fell off even more so. I did like how they showed the evolution of Jigsaw throughout the movies and showed him in his weakened state. Not to many horror films do that. They usaully make the killer some omnipotent being who can't be killed. In Saw the killing is slowly dieing throughout. The traps in the third one sucked. There were not creative and just seemed to be an afterthought. The ending was extremly predictable. Halfway through I whispered it to my girlfriend. I liked the very end though. I enjoyed how it played out.
I was against the sequels but still enjoyed them. Could have done without them but they did not real damage to the original. They did no help either. The fourth one is pissing me off. It seems to me that it's going to be another Friday the 13th where the studios milk it for all it's worth.
The Hills Have Eyes was a great movie. The original one by West Craven was stupid. His version was not violent at all and had no deformed freaks.
I like how the remake built a story with the family that was actually good. I love the music that plays when they break into the trailor and light the dad on fire. That made the mood so much darker. Still wasn't violent anough for me.
The sequal to the remake sucked. The original also had a remake which also sucked. You see a pattern? It seemed like they were more focused on shocking the audience and making them uncomfortable as oppose to making a good film. The story was not their and the characters were one dimensional. The only human side you see if from the one girl who keeps looking at the video of her son on here phone. But that seems like add-in to make your more disgusted during her brutal rape. The movie began with promise. The graphic birth lead me to believe it would be something inwhich I've never seen before. After that it fell down hill. No pun intended. Still was not violent anough for me though
Haute Tension (or High Tension..A French horror film) also began with promise. A guy preforms oral on himself with a womens decapitated head. That movie held strong until the horrorible ending.
Dead Silence sucked as well. It was written, produced, and directed by the same people who wrote, directed, and produced Saw. They seemed to be stuck in the style of that movie. It had the same feel and the ending played out the same as they do. The ending was extremly predictible. From the moment I saw his dad I knew.
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic and should have not been touched. (same goes with Halloween..I'll get to Rob Zombie later) The remake was not bad though. It didn't hurt the original but it didn't do anything for it too. But I don't think anything would hurt that film with "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The New Beginning" floating out around their somewhere. That film starred Mathew McConaughy playing a crippled psycho who's banging Leatherfaces' sister. Renee Zellwegger also stars in it playing the victim who actually gets away.
Now onto Rob Zombie. I saw both of his sad attempts at horror films. House Of 1000 Corpses was like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was filmed by a retard. So many scenes were almost identical. If he would have made the whole movie like the one scene where you actually see Dr. Satan he would of been good. Instead he makes it seem like a slasher film and then through that weird, random-ass sequence into.
The Devils Rejects was even worse. He follows the re-res from the first one and says not one word about Dr. Satan and what they hell happened at the end of the first one. And just because someone is blowing you does not mean it would be a good idea to place her into a movie. His wife can't act and he needs to hire different people for his movies. A lot of the people he had in his first two have roles in his upcoming Halloween remake. Neither were violent at all.
Now to the remake. I hate the idea of it and think it's stupid. Halloween is such a great film and does not need to be remade. The Hills Have Eyes I understand. The orginal sucked and no one knew about it. Everyone knows about Halloween. The trailors do look good but then again so did the ones for Hostel. I like the idea that he's showing more of Michael Myers as a kid and giving some explaination as to how he became to be so screwed up. The older films did so but spanned throught the seven or eight movies they made. (I lost count) They said it has something to do with this wierd cult who brainwashed him and a thorn. I do not, it's all poorly explained.
As for trippy horror--like not really gory but mentally crazy--In THe MOuth of Madness is one of my faves..I doubt anyones seen it but I urge you to do so.
I've seen that movie. It was okay. I wouldn't saw it was John Carpenters best. I would give that award to "Thing". That's a crazy movie. In The Mouth Of Madness had some good elements to it but I just didn't like how it played out. I enjoyed the little things though. Like the kid riding the bike down the rode and than passing them again and then again but old. Then the kid gets kid gets hit and when they check him he just gets up and rides away again. I also like how the things in the Authors books slowly start to reveal themselves. The little old lady at the front desk played out the best I think.
Has any one seen Evil Dead and it's sequals and spin-offs "Army Of Darkness". Also has anyone seen Dead/Alive. It's a movie Directed by Peter Jackson. (The Lord Of The Rings and King Kong) It's labeled as one of the goriest horror movies ever made. I wouldn't go as far as that but it's pretty gruesome.

I like scary movies.. they aren't scary tho... but i hate the screams and i know what you did last summer shit... 70s and 80s b-movies were the best
Its better when you dont see the person getting stabbed and that... your imagination thinks up 100 times worse stuff than could every be shown on screen

Nightmare on elm street up too 5... after that it got old
Saw I agree was the best... but i think the traps were really good in 3... maybe not creative... but fuckin painful
the first ones ending was such a cliffhanger. halloween is a sick ass movie
The final destination movies are cool.. 3 kinda sucked tho.. not creative... first one rock
and divine all sequels blow... its a proven fact

.
HIGH TENSION WAS NUTS!...I thought it was excellent--and frankly, i am surprised you don;t like Zombie's movies. I think they had great concepts....but you are right about his wife---not the best actress to pick. But I still feel that they are pretty good as far as horror goes---and not that violent? i dunno about that....but then again..when you see High Tension...
HALLOWEEN..comeon..I grew up watching them and since I love Zombie--I;d like to see how he works with Myers....we'll see Divine....we'll see
Silence of the lambs..I thought that was well written...and not scarey in the horror sense but scary in the sense that it's got true elements....and the first Psycho--

It's just my opinion Gem. The remakes of "The Hills Have Eyes" and "The Hitcher" are warrented considering that no one really saw the originals but everyone has seen Halloween. There is really no reason to remake it.
I'm going to reserve judgement until I see it but I don't have high expectations. I won't see it in theaters considering that it costs 9 bucks. I'll rent it though.
