has anyone else seen it? i think it was sick until the ending, which was a complete let down. i like how they showed the whole movie through the camera that the guy was holding - something different, which made it even better in my opinion. whats everyone else's thoughts?

I didn't think it lived up to the hype that surrounded it...It was billed as "Americas Godzilla"...The movie had more to do about the relationship pf the characters than the monster...The attacks played as a back story to them finding their friends...You also got nothing on the creature...You get to see it close up at the end but that's it...You are never told about where it came from or why it was so pissed off...It did look cool at times...When they were bombing it and you see it from the top veiw as they fly off, you get to see how it actaully moves around...
I did enjoy the way it was shot though...The first person hand held gave it an intense feeling of realism...You felt as if it could happen...I walked out the theather expecting to see the same shit I had just seen...The realism also came from the initial attack...The sequence that played out when I all first went down was like 9/11 news coverage...
I didn't it was horrible but it was no where near as good as I thought it was going to be...

yea i agree with you on the part about the monster...they really didnt say shit about it or even show it that much...but the special effects were sick too, and as you mentioned the first person view really made it different then other movies

Yes, Cloverfield was sickeningly awesome, just like all of J. J Abrams creations. J. J Abrams is really clever, you have to watch the movie through his eyes. You see, like in LOST, how you have no idea what the hell is going on, who's who and what's that? that's the same concept J. J Abrams was trying to use in Cloverfield, which was really smart, because it made us ask questions as well, Just like the people of New york did when that "Creature" struck.
9.6/10, action and climax of the movie was off the hook! loved every bit of the movie, didn't want it to end..

extremely deep movie. you didnt have to ask questions unless you want it to spell everything out for you. it was a beast coming from the sea, which pays homage to all sorts of ancient theology. the creature was awakened when in the very last scene there is a subtle clue that no one usually notices, the video reels to the past at coney island they say they had a good day and in the distance you get the footage of a satellite crashing into the ocean which awakens the beast.
its all there, no need for blatant and gratuitous monsters like godzilla and king kong, JJ knew that American audiences are too cynical for that anyway. What he banked on wrongfully, was a huge hit thinking American audiences would get it, but instead it was a let down cuz it wasn't dumbed down enough.
Though I loved at the beginning when the skyscraper instantly collapsed in an impossible implosion, paying homage to 9/11 that was LOL
movie was near flawless imo. excellent acting too especially by all the supporting characters more than the main guy and his wounded but doesnt act like girlfriend. 9/10 cuz the girl was obviously just eye candy, her acting was horrid. (given she didnt have much to go on, who gets impaled on rebar, gets up, and starts running?)
my 2 cents.

I loved the movie up until the ending. I hate not knowing what happened to the monster.
