other than pop shields, what are some ways of reducing the "pop" when artists pronounce hard p's in thier verses. im working with a small home setup...using a rode nt1 mic...ive got a foam slip over it and a double pop guard.......and i still get an unacceptable amount of "pop" when artists pronounce hard "p" sounds (and other similar letters).....any suggestions please????

A dB pad might work... its a button usually found on a mixer that cuts out very low frequencies (bass) that causes those noise... also if you use something like cool edit pro, u can use a filter that it has to cut out pops

1) Don't use a wind guard. Back up your mic screen from the mic a bit, about 3 inches is usually fine.

2) If you need to take the pop out of the recording you can use a notch filter for that frequency (usually below 100k or up to 250k). You can also use a program like Ray Gun to take out pops.

The wind guard is just that, for wind. It's too thick and you lose a lot of frequencies. The only time I use a windguard is in an outdoor live performance or for on-location field recording.

The "pop" guards, or nylon "panty hose" type shields go in front of the mic. It's just enough to keep the pops off the mic. You'll want to back it off the mic a bit anywhere from 2-4 inches or thereabouts.

This will guard from plosives. Plosives are "p", "b", etc. They cause a rush of air that creates those annoying pops.

Hope that helps.
