Anybody have any recording tips they want to share? Like favorite mics or techniques used in recording vocals or music? My setup consists of a Triton, an SM58, and Cakewalk (along with a mixer & interface, of course). I get decent results, but I know it could be a lot better...

u got a triton and that is like a magic wand... now u should get a mixer with fantom power (a 20 channel Behringer does fine) and an adequate condenser mic. (RODE NT-1) get a good soundcard (Terratec w/ analog and digital inputs) and hook it all up. u can go digital from the keyabord to the PC into cakewalk.. and analog from the mic to your pc... email me if u need more help...

Thanks for the tips... I have a good soundcard/interface. How is it possible to go digital into the PC? The Triton doesn't have digital outs. Also, I am having a HUGE problem with the Triton picking up what I think is RF noise. I use a DI to get rid of the 60 cycle hum, but I can't do anything about the RF. Any solutions to that? As far as condenser mics, I'm thinking about picking up a Shure KSM27. Any experience with that?

i had the same trouble with my triton moving it from my house into my studio. Its not noticable unless the sound is up real loud on it, anyway i bypass the volume control on the triton with my outboard preamps that i use (Focusrites off a Control 24 surface). I'd say just get a midi interface so u can use the sequencer in cakewalk and an audio card with 6 analog ins to make it all work. As for mic's, use your ears and a good pre amp to make it happen. Peace

therefore.. the reason why i like my Roland Fantom... It has 2 digital outs.. both a COAX and a Fiber Optical which is sum space age shit. (the music transfers my means of a beam of red light) my card has a digital input and i record the digital audio from the keyboard straight into cool edit pro.

I use Pro Tools TDM with outboard midi gear. My favorite modules are the Alesis DM5 (for 808 kicks) and the Roland XV5080 and JV2080.

Interesting note, the older JV2080 will take EIGHT of the Roland sound expansion cards. It's a good inexpensive way to get a "chassis" for the Roland sound library.
