I was just interested to know what the rest of you use for sample sources. I mainly use the Roland libraries and CD's from Big Fish audio.

A good source to use for samples is "loops for acid" they are about 50 bucks a disc but worth it because whatever you make with them is yours to with what you please.

Records, TV, cds, tapes, mp3's
if you use your computer to sample then hook anything you can into line in and just record it into a wave editor, then cut the **** out of it. If you use pre-made samples then you aren't a real hip hop producer. If you use 5 different drum tracks and cut them up to make one single, original line, then you know what you're doing.
And don't **** with James, you can't make him better and you can't get any closer than redman has

i also agree wit broadcaster weather it is pre made or made by you it is still a grip of work to engineer a track and i feel hip hop is a way of life.I don't think it mattersif the sample is pre made or not. I think it is the what you put out and how people relate to your work.Oh yeah and puffy is not the only producer who uses pre made samples others also include timberland, dr. dre,dj clue neptunes and a handful of others.people just have different ways of working thats all.and in the end all that matters is if you are happy wit ur work!
peace to everybody out in hip hop land

Thanx for the citation, i think that pre made samples or other kind of samples are good to extend your creativity if u cant play guitar riff´s use samples of it, if u want a orquestra use a sample of it. The only problem is the royalties that u may have pay later

I agree with JohnnyBisk...you have to know hip hop to understand what he's talking about. The artists you mentioned are RAP MUSIC producers, not hip hoppers! True hip hoppers find their sound sources by diggin in the crates! That's what hip hop's MUSIC was built on. No disrepect to cats like Dre, Neptunes, Timbaland, cause they are definitely nice, and in Dre's case, LEGENDARY producers/artists. A REAL hip hop producer can listen to a track by Large Professor, Jay Dee, or Primo, and can almost identify EVERY sound they layered, flipped, and kicked! Shit like that makes you say, "Damn, they did it like that?" On the other hand, I can listen to RAP producers, and tell you WHAT KEYBOARD they used, the patch number, and what layers they used. So, JohnnyBisk is right. Personally, I can identify with BOTH types, but I lean more towards digging for them old sounds from the 70's.
Anyhow, PEACE TO THE REAL HIP HOP HEADS! And DEFINITELY peep the movie "SCRATCH!" It's a Must See!!

to dj storm I understand what yall r sayin and I understand both sides of the topic and really nobodys wrong. all i'm sayin is that just because you may use pre made samples or not, don't mean that you don't know hip hop and yes all the people I named r producers and producin is one of the technical parts of hip hop. I myself am a amature producer and I use pre made samples and I make my own sounds from scrach usin a synth.I feel just because I used some pre made along with my own don't mean i'm any less hip hop. you dig brother?
